Lived Experience

One of my therapists once said to me “you stay in situations far longer than is helpful” and this sums up my lived experience – staying in situations because I feared I hadn’t done enough, maybe I could just try harder, maybe this is how it should be or what I should settle for.

I truly get the painful sense of guilt and shame that comes along with a deep sense of feeling not enough. I also truly get what it feels like to be supported in therapy, to be held by someone. It’s transformative really. The freedom that comes with learning the tricky journey of moving into a space where I can truly say I feel enough and I can ask for what I need or want without taking days to build up to it and rehearse it in my head.

My personal experience with self criticism and people pleasing doesn’t actively come into your sessions because your sessions are completely about you. It does enhance my empathy and connection and it is one of my driving forces for wanting to create a space where you can soften, where you can uncover and name the really hard parts of how you feel about yourself and just how much it affects your life.
